Music Video
Lydia is 'indie fashionista' and mainly wears quite edgy clothing. We looked at creating a new image for her by looking into the words and creating two images for her. This created the thought of two different personalities that almost contrasted one another.
Styling 1:
Red, Passionate dress that created warmth, fire and the spark needed to portray emotion throughout the video.
When in the video, the red dress is red when Lydia is fighting back and showing the intense rage that she is singing about in the song.
However we still are able to create the male gaze image that you see in the stereotypical video with an attractive female within the video. We created this by putting Lydia in a shorter dress that shows some skin as this helps towards creating the male gaze image which definitely helps with poularity of a video within the gender target audience.
Whilst in the video, Lydia is able to portray the fighting emotion that is symbolised by that of the colour of her dress.
Styling 2:
Innocent, white dress that portrays beauty, purity and hurt. We have used this dress to create a floaty , pretty side to Lydia’s personality and in which she is a little more vulnerable and needs safety of another.
This image that is created is for our other personality of Lydia's video is that of a innocent woman who is just trying to fight against her alter ego.
This is very different for that of her usual self and creates a new image for her as an artist.
This style is still portraying the male gaze image as the dress is clearly low cut however she looks a lot more independent, gracious and elegant in this style of dress.
Styling
Idealy we wanted to look at finding a dress that looked a lot like our sketch above as this was long, floaty and , in white, would create the vunerable image that we were trying to portray. We managed to find one just like this and used this in our video.
Industry Similar
When looking at her styling I knew that I wanted the long white dress to be the main dress throughout the music video. Before I came to this decision I used the internet to find what kind of dresses similar artist wear and long white dresses where the main thing I found. The long white dress portrays innocence and is an easy style to pull off which makes it popular with many artists not just the ones similar to mine.
This is Taylor Swift who creates very similar music to my artist, she is similar in many ways such as both artists write their own songs and play their own music, this is why I felt I would go with the white dress because it will make the styling for my music video industry similar.
I then looked at other artists who create the same kind of music and fit the same genre.
