Female Artist Digipak Research
Here is my research for solo female artists digipaks. I am going to be again looking at the two artists Gabrielle Aplin and Lauren Aquilina which inspired us the most for our music video, we will then be looking at one more artist to get a better idea of what we are going to be doing for our album cover.
Gabrielle Aplin EP Cover

This is Gabrielle Aplins EP which is what artists usual make before an album and it usual consists of about four songs. The main focus of this photograph is the artist herself. She doesnt have that flaweless, perfection look like on the pop artists cover because she doesn't have the money behind her to put lots of editting skills into it. However she still looks beautiful and natural which creates the image of innocence. It also shows that she is just a normal girl and not over editted. Only half her face is shown and it is a close up shot this adds to the EP title 'Never Fade' because she could of faded herself which is why there is only half of her face and she is trying to help the people listing to this EP to never fade themselves. The writing is then in white, capital letters to stand out from the background. The white writing connotates innocence and purity which adds to the look she is creating. The EP title is in the middle of the CD but the artists name does not have a structure to it which could be because the artist wants people to see the title first.
Lauren Aquilina EP Cover

This is Lauren Aquilina's EP cover, this is more unsual than most female solo artists EPs because it is quite complex unlike the one before which is simple. I love this cover because everything about it works well. The colouring is all whites, blues and greys which all tie in together. Then the use of the blur in the background draws attention towards the artist. Also it is as if everythings pointing inwards towards the artist to add attention to her. I then like the use of water and the cloud because I think that it adds questioning towards the photographs as of whys water and clouds been used in this photograph. The white colouring and the fact she is wearing no shoes conotates vunrability and innocence. The artist does not have her name on this EP or the title of the EP because she has another cover for this, this is the back of the digipak which has the list of song names which are in the middle going down in order.
Lana Del Rey Album Cover

This is Lana Del Rey's album cover, she has a bigger public apperance than the other two female solo artists because she signed a major reccord deal so a lot more money went into her. However she does not fall into mainstream habbits she is very different to a lot of artists today and sticks to being herself. On this album cover her name is in large bold letters above her head to make sure people see it. Then then album name is in slightly smaller letters at the bottom in the middle, this is the same colour as the sky behind her which links the everything together. The photograph of her has been taking slightly lower down pointing up giving her this fearless, powerful look which ties in with the album name. She then has this perfect look about her where everything about her is immaculate. The background is sunny and bright which adds natural lighting onto her which makes her features stand out.
