Indie Digipak Research

Here I am looking what makes an indie digipak different from other digipaks. Indie is a hard genre to define because of what indie artists stand for. An indie artist can stick to everything they stand for, follow a similar kind of music to other indie artists but end up becoming popular by one song which has been recongnised by a large number of people which then they enter this 'mainstream' music type which they can they end up becoming pop artists or start to enter a different genre of music.

Two Door Cinema Club Album Cover

Two Door Cinema Club aren't signed to a large reccord lable therefore there is no perfect star image to be made for the album cover. They are signed to an American independent record lable who focus on indie bands. There is no photograph of the band on the ablum cover instead the main focus of the cover is a cat which people do associate with indie things therefore it does slightly fit. However there is nothing on the cover which directly associates with the band or one of there music videos. The top half of the cover is darkened softly to add attention to the writting. The writing is in pure white which instantly makes you drawn to because the rest of the cover is quite dark. The band name is all in the center over the top of the cat but making sure you can see the cats eyes beccause they have been changed from normal cat eyes. The allbum name is then smaller at the bottom. Both texts are in capital letters and the 'O' has been changed for a thin circle instead of block capitals and the 'C' has also been changed to a thin C. The band change most C's and O's on things with writing that they do to thin ones with block capitals for the rest.

Vampire Weekend Ablum Cover

Again this band doesn't have a photograph of themselves on the cover or something from their music video. The album name 'Contra' is a complex reference to the 'Nicaraguan counter-revolutionaries'. The girl on the cover is an actual photograph of someone from 1983. The band wanted to use this photograph because they was draw to the quality of the photograph from that time and also the expression on her face intrigued them and felt like it fitted well. The band name and album name are both in capital, white, block letters which makes the stand out. The edges are darkened attracting more attention too the girl and writing. They have chosen to use soft light colours which work well with the type of band that they are.
